Hoary marmot photo


Saw these cute little guys up in Granite Basin alpine meadow. They are "marmota caligata". They have a high-pitched whistle they use to warn the members of the colony of approaching danger, although these guys were pretty friendly - I was able to get about 10 feet away from them.

Hi Kim,
I enjoyed taking photos with you on the Granite Basin walk. These excellent photo postings will keep some great images of the Juneau area in my mind in the future. I've bookmarked your site to see your photos through the seasons...I've only been in Juneau in July. Now I'm back in Santa Cruz...Billy
