Saw these cute little guys up in Granite Basin alpine meadow. They are "marmota caligata". They have a high-pitched whistle they use to warn the members of the colony of approaching danger, although these guys were pretty friendly - I was able to get about 10 feet away from them.

After hiking up perseverance trail for 2 miles, I took the granite basin trail another 1.5 miles. It was steeper, but so beautiful. It ended in a gorgeous basin with snow, a little pond, and lots of marmots (I'll post those critters later.) Even with the clouds hanging on the mountaintops, it was nice.
