These fat little babies were perched on the side of the building, waiting for mom: Here she is feeding one. Luckily they would start chirping and warn me for when she was coming back, but was only there for a second. Filed in birds
This photo of the Chilkats was taken from out the road (in Juneau our road system ends at every direction at some point - out the road is anywhere up the road towards the end of the road.)
Saw these cute little guys up in Granite Basin alpine meadow. They are "marmota caligata". They have a high-pitched whistle they use to warn the members of the colony of approaching danger, although these guys were pretty friendly - I was able to get about 10 feet away from them.
Check out the mouthfull on the second one, I guess he was building a nest. Filed in: mammals
After hiking up perseverance trail for 2 miles, I took the granite basin trail another 1.5 miles. It was steeper, but so beautiful. It ended in a gorgeous basin with snow, a little pond, and lots of marmots (I'll post those critters later.) Even with the clouds hanging on the mountaintops, it was nice. Filed in trails
Took these photos the other day from the Airport trail. It was much lovelier trail than I expected. I'll be visiting this trail again to capture some images of birds. Filed in trails
View of Juneau below and Douglas across the channel. The view would be even better on a sunny day, but its been a good week since we had one of those. Hope I can add some "sunny" photos soon to my Juneau blog. Filed in trails
