School bus goes around the corner

I love the snow on the rocky hillsides. Took this at Auke Bay as the school bus was rounding the curve. Posted by Picasa

This photo was taken after our first snowfall, before the old truck had 2 feet of snow on top. Posted by Picasa

All the houses look so cozy and warm with the recent thick blanket of snow on them. Posted by Picasa

Took this photo when there was only about 12-15 inches of snow on the ground, before it was 25+ inches. Posted by Picasa

I saw the (Northern) Lights

After living here in Alaska for over a year, I finally saw the northern lights. Friday night brought a nice display of the the northern lights, mostly in shades of green (thats the only color I saw as I was freezing my toes and fingers off waiting patiently for the perfect shot). If you click on this first photo - in the enlarged version you should be able to see the Big Dipper perfectly. Posted by Picasa

The view from Safeway

I'd venture to guess our Safeway parking lot has one of the best views in the country. Posted by Picasa

Winter wonderland

Juneau has been transformed into a winter wonderland the last couple days. I'll take the white fluffy stuff any day over the wet rainy stuff. :) Posted by Picasa

Vote for Pedro

I realize this is a terrible photo from a technique point of view, but its hard to get a decent shot while at the red light. Downtown there was a huge group of people with their political signs, and one lone unicyclist with a big "Vote for Pedro" sign. I thought it was too funny and had to snap a photo. It was around 4:30 so it was already very dark.

And yes I voted, but Pedro wasn't an option, and I forgot to write him in. :) Posted by Picasa

Coots swimming in a very diminishing water hole

I was informed these are not ducks, but coots. Their water hole is getting smaller and smaller as they are surrounded by ice at Twin Lakes. Posted by Picasa

Full moon at sunrise

Many times we aren't able to see the full moon, but with the stretch of clear days this last week, the moon has been easily visible. I took these photos this morning as the moon was setting over a very frozen Twin Lakes.
