Totally unrelated to this photo, I saw in the Juneau Empire that they arrested two men in the slain wolf case, but they don't think the wolf was Romeo.

Rainy, cloudy weather doesn't make for great photos, but had to take a photo of this iceberg floating in the Mendenhall lake. Looks like a duck to me. :)

Spotted this pretty vein of quartz among the moss, ground dogwood and trailing raspberry plants.

Father Brown's cross

Devil's Club

The hiker's arch-enemy, the dreaded devil's club. Berries are considered to be toxic. The plant is kind of pretty, as long as you don't run into its spiny stems and leaves. 

Fly Agaric mushrooms

Photos of the poisonous mushroom of storybooks. Also known as the fly amanita, eating this mushroom can produce intoxication, delirium, and/or convulsions with occasional death. Found this group over on Admiralty. I took photos only :)

Admiralty Island South Young Lake remote cabin

Took Alaska Seaplanes over to Admiralty Island for a night in a remote cabin. Weather was so-so, but it was a great experience. Saw a bear, but didn't get a photo worth posting. It was a 20 minute flight from Juneau.

Spaulding Meadows trail

Hiked up Spaulding Meadows last Monday when the sun was out for a couple hours.
The trail was less than desirable in parts
By the end of the trail, there was no more blue in my jeans.
But the view at the top was worth it.

Some kind of mushroom

I usually like to post the names of things I photograph, but I don't have any idea what kind of mushroom this is. Anyone know??? The shape is similar to a puffball, but it is not in my Alaska mushroom book. Took this photo on the Spaulding Meadows trail.
